Fine Arts Flourish at Bishop Dunne
We are very proud of the creative talent of our Bishop Dunne students—they have given some exceptional performances in the last few weeks and produced some amazing work. Guided by their dedicated teachers and coaches, and after much hard work and practice, the month of April has produced many fine arts achievements. 2017 Bishop Dunne Golf Classic

With 26 foursomes and numerous sponsors, the Bishop Dunne Golf Classic blew past its goal of raising $46,000 to a record high of $62,500. March 27, 2017, was the ideal day for golf at Stevens Park Golf Course with the trees budding and flowers in full bloom. Parents, alumni, community supporters, and Bishop Dunne Corporate Vendors and Sponsors spent the day golfing for Bishop Dunne students. Click here for a video of the great event!

PRAYERS

Please keep in your prayers those members of our community who are going through the difficulties of illness or losing a family member, especially nurse, Anne Steiger, whose mother, Mary Ann Gleason, passed away; and staff member, Carol Jackson, whose father-in-law, Tony Jackson, passed away.

SCHOOL NEWS

Theater Is Thriving!
Last November, seniors Heath Kuykendall and Jack Gibson began writing their own drama and casting the show, with a group of nine actors and five technicians and stage crew members. The play For What It's Worth, will be performed this weekend at Bishop Dunne. You can read more here.

 

Bishop Dunne Students Win First Place at LTAB Finals !
Seniors Marlie Harris and Gabby Edwards, and sophomore Louis Edwards participated in the finals of the poetry competition Louder Than a Bomb on Saturday, April 22, 2017, and won first place. You can read more here.

 

Senior Takes Third Place in Photography Competition
Congratulations to senior Julia Santos for placing third with her photographic art submission, "Seriously Huge Pizza." Read about more award- winning student photography here.

 

Mission Trip Garage Sale
The students on the mission trip held their annual garage sale Saturday, April 22, 2017. Thanks to Mrs. Briseno for hosting the sale again this year. The sale raised over $1,200 towards the cost of this summer's mission trip to Nicaragua. Click here to donate to the trip.

 

Falconette Spring Show
The Falconettes gave a dazzling and sparkling performance last Saturday evening. The show featured the girls in groups and in solo performances from First Lieutenant Audrey Blackburn, Vanessa Castillo, Christina Davila, Blakleye Goer, Captain Lauryn Jones, Lieutenant Alexis McDaniel, and Lieutenant Philan Morgan. 2017 Sounds of Bishop Dunne

GeoTech Lecture Series Update
On Friday, April 21, 2017, Father Josh Whitfield from St. Rita Catholic Community addressed the junior English classes, examining in detail the works of Malcolm X and Martin Luther King, comparing philosophies and literary style. Click here to read more about the speaker series.

 

The Falcons Represent Well at State Tournament
Bishop Dunne was represented by sophomores Chance Mulligan and Ethan De La Garza at the TAPPS State Golf Tournament on April 24 and 25, 2017, at Wildflower Country Club in Temple, Texas. Both golfers finished in the top 20 out of over 50 competitors. Click here to read more.

IMPORTANT REMINDERS

Senior Scholarship Assembly

On May 4, 2017, we will hold our annual senior scholarship assembly. This special assembly is to recognize our seniors who have earned scholarships for college. If your child has earned a scholarship, it is important that documentation is received by Mr. Root in order to take part in the assembly. The assembly will take place in the gym beginning at 2:30 p.m.
 

Did you Celebrate Your 15?
If you want to wear your dress again, come and participate in our Quinceañera fashion show! It doesn't matter if you are a senior or a freshman, if you have it, wear it. Demonstrate your Latin pride on May 5 in the afternoon here at school. If you are interested, complete this form to give us your information. Speak with your "damas" and invite them to participate also, as long as they are wearing their dresses. Send us a picture of you with your dress to dtorresrivera@bdcs.org. Calling all parents of Quinceañeras! Encourage your daughters to participate in our first quinceañera fashion show at school on May 5, 2017.

 

¿Celebrast tus Qunce?
Ponte tu vestido y ven a participar en el primer desfile de quinceañeras de Bishop Dunne. No importa si eres senior o freshman, si quieres usar otra vez tu vestido, ¡póntelo y ven! Demuestra tu orgullo latino el 5 de mayo en la tarde, estaremos en la escuela celebrando. Si estás interesada, completa este cuestionario para darnos tu información. Habla con tus damas e invítalas a participar, que se pongan el vestido también. Mándanos una foto tuya con tu vestido a dtorresrivera@bdcs.org. Cualquier pregunta, habla con la Dra. Torres Rivera en el salón 407.

 

Oak Cliff Cinco de Mayo Parade
Latinos Unidos invites students to show their Bishop Dunne pride by participating in the Cinco de Mayo parade sponsored by the Oak Cliff Coalition for the Arts. The parade will begin on Saturday, May 6, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. Participants will meet for breakfast at the parade line-up site at 8:45 a.m. Anyone interested in participating may email Ms. York at ayork@bdcs.org for more information or sign up here.

 

Safe Environment Program News
There will be a Safe Environment Family of Faith training class on Thursday, May 11, 2017, at 6:00 p.m. in room 310 for new volunteers. Interviews will begin at 4:30 p.m. To register for the class and interview, please click here. Prior to attending class, please complete the screening by clicking here.​

There will also be an Update training class on Thursday, May, 11, 2017, at 6:00 p.m. for individuals who have been previously cleared through the Diocese of Dallas and need update training. Please register for the class by clicking here.

Photos for the volunteer identification badge will be taken prior to class. All volunteers must be Safe Environment cleared before receiving a volunteer badge.

Volunteer Program News
Volunteer hours accumulated to date as a community are 3,811. We are at 33% of family volunteers for the year.

It's not too late to earn 10 volunteer hours by donating the following supply package in its entirety.

4 - LARGE Kleenex
2 - Lysol disinfectant spray
2 - Desk staplers

Donations may be dropped off at the front office for Mrs. Echavarria. Please be sure to sign the volunteer log to receive credit for your hours. Your generosity is appreciated.​
