New Family Information

At Bishop Dunne learning never stops! Our English and World Language faculty have selected books to help you to continue to explore the world through literature during the summer months. The summer reading choices will take you to far-off places (and universes) across space and time. Many of the options include award winning authors for our annual Literary Festival that we host each April. 

Summer reading Info

Prior to the start of school, all new families will receive an e-mail with login information to activate your PlusPortals account. PlusPortals provides you access to grades, attendance, and course information for each enrolled class. The easiest way to access PlusPortals is through the PlusPortals app. Both parents and students can login using the app once their accounts are activated. Parents will login using the e-mails provided on the enrollment form. Students will login using their Bishop Dunne school e-mail account.

Calculators

The math and science departments require the following calculators to be used in class. The high school requirement will be able to be used for all major national standardized exams including PSAT/SAT/ACT/AP. They can also be used in most undergraduate math and science courses at the collegiate level.

Laptops & Microsoft

All Bishop Dunne students will be issued a school Microsoft 365 account which will provide them the following:

• School E-mail via Microsoft Outlook
• Microsoft Teams
• Microsoft Office Suite
• Microsoft OneDrive Cloud Storage
• Access to school digital resources via Clever

All students are required to have a laptop that is able to connect to the internet via wireless access. Due to requirements by NWEA and College Board for testing - students may not use Chromebooks. Please also ensure that your laptop has a working, built-in webcam and that you have reliable home internet. Computer Reccomendations

Bishop Dunne students typically have 8 courses each semester and follow a block schedule as follows:

• PURPLE DAY (Most Mondays) - All classes meet
• RED DAY (Tuesday/Thursday) - Blocks A, B, C, and D meet
• BLUE DAY (Wednesday/Friday) - Blocks E, F, G, and H meet

All students are assigned to an Advisory which will meet on Mondays and selected Thursdays. 

Bell Schedules

Students with Learning Differences are welcome at Bishop Dunne. In order to provide the best support possible, the following procedures should be followed to receive appropriate accommodations. 

1. Parents must provide current (within three years) psycho-educational testing that documents a learning difference.
   OR
   Parents must provide a doctor's statement giving a diagnosis of ADHD, emotional issues, head injury, or other related health problem(s) that interferes with the learning process.
2. A list of strengths, weaknesses, strategies, and accommodations is compiled based on information from testing and the student's academic history. This list is then reviewed by the parents, student, Learning Resources Center, and administration before finalizing instructional accommodations.

Our After School Care is open to all Middle School students. At 4:00 p.m. all Middle School students who have not been picked up or are not in practice or tutoring will move into the building and sign into the After Care Program. Students will be signed in by the After Care teacher, this will be used as an official attendance, and parents will be charged based on their registration options. Students who are signed in as a drop-in will be billed based on attendance. Any middle school student found in the hallways after 4:00 p.m. will be escorted to the cafeteria and will be signed into the program and their parents will be billed for a drop-in fee.

Bishop Dunne Catholic School is a member of TAPPS (Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools). High school student athletes must complete an annual physical and medical history form to participate in our athletic program. Middle school student athletes should also complete these medical forms each year. The completed forms should be submitted to Coach Adam Villanueva.

The Parents’ Association (“PA”) works to build community, raise funds, and support the school through events and functions conducted by parent volunteers who serve on the Parents’ Association Council (PAC) and Committees with the support of all Bishop Dunne parents. Our purpose is to encourage a strong parent group that supports the school through fundraising activities and volunteer efforts, to foster staff appreciation, nurture communication between parents and school, and provide the best possible environment for our students.

We meet twice a year during the fall and spring semesters. We are always looking for parents to contribute their time, talent and treasure to the Parents' Association as we continue to support our students, staff and community.

The mission of the Bishop Dunne Dads Club is to enhance the Bishop Dunne experience for families through community engagement and fundraising. Meetings are once a month on selected Wednesdays at BB Bop Seoul Kitchen at 6 p.m. Follow us on Instagram @bishopdunnedads.

Join Dads' Club

We welcome all parents to contribute to the Bishop Dunne community by sharing their time and talent. Each family is expected to volunteer 40 hours which can be completed by volunteering in person, or through donations. All of our volunteer opportunities are managed through Track It Forward, and all volunteers are required to complete the Safe Environment process for the Diocese of Dallas through Virtus Online. New families are encouraged to start this process as soon as possible so there is no delay in being able to volunteer. If you need assistance, please contact our Safe Environment Coordinator, Ms. Valerie Gazaway.

Permission Forms

Bishop Dunne uses School Status Forms and Flows (formerly Operoo) for school permission slips and digital signatures on forms. Close to the start of the school year, parents will receive an e-mail invitation to create an account in Forms and Flows and to securely provide student medical and emergency contact information. GroupMe

Each grade level has its own GroupMe for sharing reminders, event details, volunteer opportunities, and other grade specific updates. The groups are managed by parent volunteers from the Parent Advisory Council (PAC) and provide a quick, informal way for families to communicate and support one another.

The official uniform provider of Bishop Dunne is Lands' End. You can order online via our Lands' End uniform store, or you can go to their location in Dallas if you would like assistance with measurements and placing your order.

Important things to note:

• Casual uniform can be worn on Mondays and Fridays only. Sneakers are allowed with casual uniform (no slides, slippers, or Crocs).
• Polo shirt colors are Navy for Middle School, Red for High School, and Light Blue for Seniors. All polo shirts should have the school logo.
• Students should wear school appropriate dress shoes (black, brown, or navy) with formal uniform (no sneakers, slides, slippers, or Crocs) on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Girls may wear saddle oxfords in black/white or navy/white.
• Blazers should be worn every Thursday and on other days where a more formal dress is required (Mass, special events, etc.). All blazers should have the school logo.
• Girl's skirts should measure no shorter than 3 inches above the knee (please allow room to grow!)
• Shirts must be tucked in at all times for both casual and formal uniforms. Make sure to order the appropriate size so they can be tucked in.
• Belts (solid black or brown) should be worn with all pants/shorts.
• IDs must be worn every day. Students will be provided a temporary ID during orientation, and will receive their formal ID with photo after school picture day.

Spirit WearThe official spirit wear provider of Bishop Dunne is BSN. You can customize and order all your favorite Bishop Dunne gear online through the BSN Sports Spirit Store.

Each day the Bishop Dunne Cafeteria offers a full hot lunch and also a grab and go option for students. We are a cashless campus. Each family should set up a PaySchools account to add money to their child's lunch account. Students may also bring lunch, and microwaves are available to warm food. Students are not allowed to order from a food delivery service.

   • Go to the PaySchools website
   • If you have previously used Payschools, login with your existing information
   • If you have not used Payschools, you will need to select "REGISTER"
2. Set a funding source (such as a credit or debit card)
   • Establish a payment source by selecting "Payment Methods"
   • You may automatically replenish the account by selecting "Auto Replenishment" from the right navigation
3. Once you've registered and set up a funding source, you may access your dashboard to check your balance, or change your funding source.

New Parent Orientation Tuesday, August 4 from 5:30 - 7:00 p.m.

New family gathering. Have an opportunity to meet with other new families and get all your back-to-school questions answered. Representatives from all areas including the Parents' Association, Dads' Club, cafeteria, business office, transportation, athletics and more will be available to you.

New Student Orientation Friday, August 7, 8:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

All 6th grade, 9th grade, and transfer students should attend. New Falcons will be guided by student leadership in a fun morning of activities. All students will receive a printed copy of their schedule, locker information, and learn what it means to be a Falcon! Students should bring their laptops. Dress will follow spirit dress down day guidelines.

First Full Day of Classes Monday, August 10

All students are on campus for the first full day of classes! It will be a Purple Day with all classes meeting. Students should bring laptop and backpack with basic supplies. Dress is casual uniform.
