FALCONER | THE WEEKLY NEWSLETTER OF BISHOP DUNNE CATHOLIC SCHOOL AUGUST 13, 2020 IMPORTANT CHANGE REGARDING FACE COVERINGS A change in diocesan policy now prohibits wearing gators as face coverings. Please make sure your student has an appropriate face mask. GETTING READY TO ROCK!
Lots of new things to see around the campus! Above: New year! New Look! The girls locker room has a new wall wrap!
NO FORMAL UNIFORMS REQUIRED FOR THE FIRST QUARTER As we plan for students returning to campus in September, we have decided to suspend the requirement for the wearing of the "Formal" uniform during the first quarter of the school year. Students will not be required to wear their blazers during the first quarter. Students may wear any of the Bishop Dunne uniforms, as long as it is worn properly. We want to be able to bring students outside during the day for mask breaks; students will be more comfortable if they are not in formal uniform. We will reevaluate the uniform at the end of the first quarter.
PICKUP BOOKS AND MATERIALS ON FRIDAY, AUGUST 14 Student materials have been organized and packaged for all grades. These bags contain the physical books that your student needs for English and religion/theology, a planner, and books for specific classes unique to your child.
Every student has physical books for English and religion/theology, but some students also have Russian, AP human geography, or sports medicine, and those classes use physical books. There may also be art supplies for certain classes. Math, science, and other classes not listed use e-books.
Pickup is tomorrow, Friday, August 14, according to this schedule: 6th/7th grades: 8:00-9:30 a.m.
This is very important so students are ready for classes starting next Monday. If you have any questions, please call 214-339-6561.

BISHOP DUNNE DADS' CLUB Attention all Bishop Dunne Dads! If you are interested in becoming a member of the Dads' Club, please email Mr. Michael Alfers. The Dads' Club had a lot of fun and success last year performing multiple projects and events of service and fundraising for the school community. The Dads' Club will be getting creative this year in ways we can continue to serve our school's mission and community in fun and unique ways. There will be a Zoom call for interested Dads' Club members coming up later in August, so please contact Mr. Alfers if you are interested!
RETURN TO SCHOOL FAQs We continue to compile a list of FAQs for parents and students to reference. Most of your commonly asked questions are answered in documents found on the 2020 Return to School webpage. Please routinely check the page for updated information. JUST FOR YOU POEM OF THE WEEK Wendell Berry is a farmer, novelist, poet, and environmental activist. He writes about the natural world and our place in it, always pointing the reader towards contemplation. In his poem, "The Peace of Wild Things," Berry writes that when filled with disquiet and anxiety, he goes outside to the woods, to the river, to think, and there, he says, "I come into the peace of wild things/who do not tax their lives with forethought of grief." This is a helpful reminder for us in these times. Much like Jesus admonishes us in Matthew 6:34, "Therefore, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own."
REMINDERS IMMUNIZATION RECORDS REQUIRED In order to be in compliance with Texas Administrative Code: Title 25, Health Services 97.61-97.77, we must receive proof of the required immunizations for all students. If a student does not meet this requirement, we cannot allow the student to remain in school until all delinquent immunizations are documented.
If a child does not have the proper documentation on record August 24, 2020 at 8:00 a.m., he/she will not be permitted to attend school until proof of immunizations is received. Please take the appropriate steps to have your child immunized or to send the documentation to the school.
YEARBOOK Introducing ImageShare App
This year will be quite interesting and unpredictable. In effort to help the yearbook staff with coverage, we have set up social media accounts and ImageShare, an app available for Android and Apple phones/ iPads. This app allows you to upload photos that you capture of your student in school related events! The more photos, the merrier!
Please download the app and begin to share your photo. Don't forget to caption the pic and let up know who is in the picture! Go to your app store and look for this: RETURN TO SCHOOL WAIVER This waiver was included in the Return to School package you received last week. It is not necessary to download, print and return the form. You will be receiving a Care Monkey link allowing you to electronically complete and submit the form.
VOLUNTEER CORNER Welcome back Bishop Dunne families! As members of the school community, we all share in the opportunity to volunteer our time. Unfortunately, given the challenging time we are in, and being that the health of our families is most important, non-essential visitors and volunteers will be limited. The Volunteer Program at Bishop Dunne helps to reduce costs and to maintain efficient day-to-day operations. Volunteers play a huge role in our Bishop Dunne community, by giving their time, support, commitment and donations. The beginning of the school year is a time when we rely heavily on supply donations. Families can begin this show of support by donating the following much needed supplies.
Bishop Dunne is so grateful for your donation and appreciates your support. More information on the Volunteer Program and it's development is forthcoming. Stay Tuned...
For questions please contact Norma Echavarria, Volunteer Liaison, nechavarria@bdcs.org or by calling the school office.
FOOTBALL FUNDRAISER Story of the Season Coach Nathan Slaughter and the Bishop Dunne football team invite you to help support the football program this year by subscribing to, and advertising in, Story of the Season, a weekly digital recap newsletter with video clips and interactive capability. Fans can keep up with all the details of each game, and subscribers receive a digital yearbook with coverage of the entire season at the end of the season.
