April Is Poetry Month!

April is a month to celebrate fine arts and literature at Bishop Dunne. Every Monday, during Poetry Month, faculty and students celebrate their love of literature by sharing favorite poems online, reading selected poems during daily announcements, sharing poems from the poetry fountain outside the library, and displaying poetry throughout the school.

Track Team Soars at Texas Relays
The Bishop Dunne 4x100m relay team finished first with a time of 41.12 at the prestigious Texas Relays last week. Runners Marquez Beason, Jalen Drayden, Cameron Miller, and Kendall Paul outraced their competition in spectacular style. Click here to read more.

 

Bishop Dunne Presents: The Music Man Junior!
Come join us for a humorous, music-filled adventure as the Bishop Dunne Theater Department presents its annual spring show: The Music Man Jr. Senior Rob Voigt stars as Professor Harold Hill, a travelling salesman and con-artist with sights set on defrauding the town of River City, Iowa, by creating a fake boys' marching band. Click here to read more.

 

Freshman Gabrielle Day Accepted to Lewa Conservation Leadership Program
Freshman Gabrielle Day will participate in the Young Conservationists Leadership Program in Kenya this summer. She is one of only eight students from the United States selected to participate. Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, a former cattle ranch, is now a 62,000- acre rhino sanctuary. Click here to read more.

 

Coming Soon: Admissions Coffee 
Bishop Dunne will be hosting an Admissions Coffee next Wednesday, April 11, 2018, from 8:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. in the library.

This informal, come-and-go coffee session will give prospective families the opportunity to have their Bishop Dunne admissions questions answered. They will get to take a tour with a student, learn a little about our school's academic, athletic, and extracurricular offerings, and enjoy coffee and a light breakfast. Ninth and Tenth Grade Students Go to College
One of our academic goals was to double the number of dual credits earned by students. Two weeks ago, Mountain View Community College teachers came to Bishop Dunne to offer "boot camps" to ninth and tenth grade students to prepare them to take the TSI, the test students need to pass to be eligible to take college credit classes in high school. Click here to read more.

The college counseling office is working hard to provide seniors with every opportunity possible to apply for additional college scholarships and aid. Please click here for an up-to-date list.

 

National College Fair
Students in grades 9 through 12 and their families are encouraged to attend the NACAC DFW National College Fair on Monday, April 9, 2018, from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at the Irving Convention Center at Las Colinas. The fair is a terrific opportunity for prospective students to meet with representatives from over 200 colleges!

IMPORTANT REMINDERS

Sounds of Bishop Dunne Concert
On Tuesday, April 17, 2018, at 6:00 p.m. in the Monsignor Milam J. Joseph Auditorium, the Bishop Dunne music department will hold its annual Sounds of Bishop Dunne concert. The theme for this year's concert is "Sounds of Childhood" and will feature music filled with energy, happiness, and nostalgia. Hear music from the past, as well as a new nostalgia filled work, "Frogs," by renowned composer Randall Standridge, commissioned by Bishop Dunne and other consortium schools.

Featured musicians for this concert include the Bishop Dunne jazz band, all Bishop Dunne concert bands 6 - 12, the Bishop Dunne string orchestras, the Sounds of Bishop Dunne choir, as well as student solos, ensembles, guest musicians, Director of Bands, Daniel Harrelson, on trombone, and more. Security Updates

Our shelter in place procedures have been finalized and teachers updated. Training will be ongoing. In the next few days, teachers will go over procedures with our students and a drill will take place in the near future. We will announce the drill to all as it is about to begin.The drill will be under police supervision and we will be observing closely to see how we can improve. 

 

Business Office Updates 
As we approach the end of the school year, all 2017-2018 family accounts with the school must be settled before transcripts and/or grades will be released. These accounts are due in full by Tuesday, May 15, 2018.

Tuition Payments
If you plan to use the Texas Dow Employee Credit Union for payment of tuition and fees (excluding the registration fee), the first payment will be due on July 5, 2018 to get a 10 or 12-month loan and the lowest monthly payments. The TDECU forms are available within the 2018-2019 school enrollment contract for your convenience. The TDECU forms are due April 16, 2018 to Ms. Brooks in the school business office. Please turn these forms in to us as soon as possible. This will allow the school and Credit Union sufficient time to process requests and mail the required payment information to you.

2018-2019 Tuition
If you plan to pay the upcoming year's tuition by cash, check or credit card, all tuition and fees are due June 15, 2017.

TDECU Loan Rates
Once again Bishop Dunne is happy to announce low credit union loan rates for our parents. Low rates are available if forms are completed by June 15, 2018. Eligible families can get a low interest rate of 4%; a 5.5% rate for families that do not qualify; and after June 15th, all loans will be at 6.5%.

Tolton: From Slave to Priest Production at Bishop Dunne

Saint Luke Productions present Tolton: From Slave to Priest, a live performance by Jim Coleman, Tuesday, April 10, 2018, at 7:00 p.m. in the auditorium. Two additional performances will take place April 13 – 14, 2018, at 7:00 p.m. in Sweeney Hall at St. Rita Catholic Community. Volleyball Information Meeting
There will be a volleyball parent information meeting on Tuesday, April 10, 2018, at 6:00 p.m. in room 105. Volleyball tryouts will be held on Thursday and Friday, May 17 and 18, 2018, from 3:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. in the gym.

Join us for the 3rd Annual Motor Run benefitting the Lance A.  Lemmons Memorial Scholarship this Saturday, April 7, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. at Bishop Dunne. Registration is $15.
