Summer at Dunne

Summer is a busy, fun, and productive time at Bishop Dunne. Students can choose to take courses in academic subjects, strengthen foundations, work ahead to be ready for rigorous classes, learn something wonderfully new just for enjoyment, or develop athletic skills. Summer programs are also an excellent way for new students to make new friends and learn their way around campus. Click here to learn more and register.

#DunneSpeed: The Track Team Breaks Records and Brings Home Medals

On Friday, May 5, 2018, the Bishop Dunne track team traveled to Waco, Texas, for the 2018 TAPPS State Meet. The Falcons became state champions in the boys' 4x100 thanks to the dynamic team of juniors, Jalen Drayden, Jabari Khepera, Cameron Miller, and Kendall Paul. The boys also broke the TAPPS 6A state record, setting the tone for their promising senior year achievements ahead. Click here to read more. 


 

2018 Summer Online Education Registration
Classes for the summer session of the Online Education Program (OEP) begin June 12 – 15, 2018. The registration page is open and can be found by clicking here
The OEP offers credit redemption classes for students who need to make up necessary credits for graduation and accelerated credit classes for students who would like to take a class over the summer, allowing a little more freedom for their schedules in the upcoming school year. Click here to read more.

2018 National Spanish Exam Results 
Congratulations to Spanish students who attained national recognition for excellent performance on the 2018 National Spanish Examinations.
Students from Bishop Dunne earned a total of five gold, 16 silver, and 11 bronze medals along with 41 honorable mentions. Click here to read more. 

 

Junior Robert Harwerth Hired as Magazine's Photographer
Photography 2 student Robert Harwerth recently submitted images to a new Oak Cliff online magazine, Life in the Cliff. Robert had taken some photos on Jefferson Street for the Retail as Art contest. He told Mrs. Allie Ramirez about it, and she suggested he submit them to the new online magazine she had heard about. The director, Camille Liebbe, loved his photos. Click here to read more.

 

Momentous Dog Wash
Have you been thinking of giving your dog a bath, but you just can't seem to find the time, or have the energy? Please consider taking your sweet dog to Momentous Institute on Wednesday, May 23, 2018, between 1:00 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. at 106 East 10th Street, Dallas, TX 75203. The Bishop Dunne Animal Rescue Club has teamed up with Momentous Institute for their first ever Dog Wash! Click here to read more.

Eighth Grade Celebration
The eighth grade celebration for the Class of 2022 will be held Thursday, May 2, 2018, from 8:15 a.m. – 9:15 a.m. in the auditorium, with a light breakfast to follow. If there are any questions, please contact Mrs. Erica Culton at eculton@bdcs.org.




IMPORTANT REMINDERS

Used Uniforms

The Falcon Store is now accepting gently used uniforms for our upcoming sale on July 10 and 11, 2018. Only clean uniforms in good condition will be accepted - no stained or ripped clothing please.
Please drop off your laundered, used uniforms, preferably on hangers, now until the end of the school year, in the front office.

Seniors may drop off their used uniforms in the Student Development Office by May 18, 2018, to receive a dress down day.

New Uniform Sale
Risse Brothers School Uniforms will be here at Bishop Dunne on Saturday, July 14, 2018, from 10:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m. in the multi-purpose room. All uniform items will be available for purchase.

All major credit cards are accepted. No checks please! You may register online at rissebrothers.com, if it is your f first time shopping with Risse Brothers.


 

Please Drive Safely
We ask that all parents, students, and visitors to Bishop Dunne Catholic School please drive safely and courteously through the school parking lots and on Rugged Drive. Speed should be kept to 10 mph or below.
Please remember that carpool lines are still considered within the active school zone. Handheld cell phone and texting within the active school zones are prohibited in the Dallas metro area. Parents and students who drive must be vigilant, attentive, and watchful in school zones at all times and remember the unpredictability of childre

High School Spring Sports Athletic Banquet
The high school spring sports athletic banquet will be held on Monday, May 21, 2018, at 6:00 p.m. Spring sports include: track, golf, tennis, softball, baseball, archery, and athletic training. Admission will be $8 for adults and $4 for children. Student athletes receive complimentary admission. Safe Environment Program News
There will be a Safe Environment training class on the newly released training video and presentation on Tuesday, May 22, 2018, at 6:00 p.m. for all volunteers. Please click here  to register for the class. There will be no child supervision.

For new volunteers only, please complete the Screening Form at www.cathdal.org prior to attending the class. Interviews for new volunteers will begin at 4:30 p.m. Please register for an appointment when registering for the training class.

Photos for the volunteer identification badge will be taken prior to the class. All volunteers must be Safe Environment cleared before a badge is issued.

Volunteer Opportunities
Please continue to seek volunteer opportunities on the Track it Forward volunteer system. Please remember to volunteer in any capacity you must be safe environment cleared.

 

AP Testing
AP testing begins Monday, May 7th through Friday, May 18th. Please note testing rooms around campus and remain quiet while passing these rooms. If you are taking an AP exam, review Exam Day Policies on the College Board website. Please take note of prohibited items, specifically smartphones and smartwatches/Fitbits. For more detailed information about prohibited items, dos, and don'ts, read the AP Student Bulletin. Testers may get information about their testing day, time, and room directly from their AP teacher(s).

 

Dual Credit Registration Forms Due
Ms. Davila from Mountain View will be at the Bishop Dunne campus during lunches on Thursday, May 17 and Friday, May 18, for summer and fall 2018 dual credit registration. If you have met the standard on your TSI exams and plan to enroll in dual credit courses for next school year, please complete the appropriate forms and turn them in on one of those two days. After those dates, forms will need to be turned in directly to the Dual Credit Office at Mountain View.

 

Middle School Athletic Awards Ceremony
The middle school athletic awards ceremony will be held Monday, May 21, 2018, from 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. in the gym, with refreshments to follow. If there are any questions, please contact Mr. Kevin Rutland at krutland@bdcs.org or Mr. Stephen Guerrero at sguerrero@bdcs.org.
