Residents are encouraged to step outside and cheer from 7:00 to 7:05 p.m. for all the doctors, nurses, police, firefighters and other civilian workers who are putting themselves in harm's way to keep everyone else safe during the coronavirus pandemic.
Dads' Club donations for BD families Over the past two weeks, our Bishop Dunne Dads' Club has been hard at work raising money to purchase meals for Falcon families. Over the past nine days, the Dads' Club has provided 16 meals to our families.
As the quarantine process began in mid-March, the Dads' Club brainstormed ways in which to support the Bishop Dunne community during these trying times. The dads came up with the idea of purchasing meals from local restaurants with Bishop Dunne connections and providing them to Falcon families, especially those immediately impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The dads hope was to support the Falcon community in several ways by providing families with meals obtained from Bishop Dunne family restaurants whose business has been affected as well. Bishop Dunne family restaurants the Dads' Club has provided food from (so far) include Smokey John's BBQ (owned by Juan and Brent Reaves, BD classes of '89 and '95), El Taxequeno Taqueria (owned by the family of Ricky Monroy, BD class of 2016), Odom's BBQ (owned by the family of current 7th grader, Elias Young), Taco y Vino (owned by the family of current 7th grader, Manning Contreras), and BB Bop Seoul Kitchen (owned by BD parents in the 2020-2021 school year). The dads will continue providing meals as long there are enough funds.
If you are interested in donating to the Dads' Club for meal purchases, please donate at https://www.bdcs.org/support/donate and notate to the Dads' Club in the 'Other' section of the donation form. Thank you for you help!

National Poetry Month National Poetry Month was inaugurated by the Academy of American Poets in April 1996. Over the years, it has become the largest literary celebration in the world with schools, publishers, libraries, booksellers, and poets celebrating poetry's vital place in our culture. Mrs. Gibson shares the following with you.
ShelterInPoems, a program of the Academy of American Poets, encourages people to share poems they find inspiring in uncertain times. Post a poem from their website that brings you comfort with the #ShelterIn Poems and say why you chose it. Here's a sonnet I am reading today (April 14) by John Donne, Holy Sonnet 10. Commonly known by its first line, "Death, Be Not Proud," it feels like an appropriate poem for our community to meditate on in these uncertain days. See it online here. National Poetry Month is ongoing. Share your favorite poem with a friend or with me by emailing mgibson@bdcs.org.
