National Poetry Month National Poetry Month was inaugurated by the Academy of American Poets in April 1996. Over the years, it has become the largest literary celebration in the world with schools, publishers, libraries, booksellers, and poets celebrating poetry's vital place in our culture. Mrs. Gibson shares the following with you.
This week's ShelterInPoems, is by Jane Kenyon is called "Let Evening Come." Kenyon died in 1995. She was young, under 50 years old. She was married to poet Donald Hall, who was almost 20 years older than she was. They married when Kenyon was in her 20s, and he worried about leaving her alone; they both assumed he would die before her. As it happened, life took a different turn. (Hall lived to be 89, dying in 2018.)
